Morning Fog

Image
Morning Fog Sometimes my morning walk is in the fog.   Here's a foggy morning in Wilmington on Greenhill Avenue...    And a foggy in Havre de Grace, approaching the Marquis de Lafeyette...

Portrait of Mary

Image
Portrait of Mary Of the paintings I've done of Mary, this is one of my favorites.  I later did a smaller version for a thrift store found frame in a cameo style.

The Bayou Lindens

Image
The Bayou Lindens The Bayou, on the bay-front in Havre de Grace,  is a condominium originally built as a hotel.  The grounds have several very large Linden trees (American Basswood).  Here's a view I painted that includes the Bayou and shows two large Lindens on the waterside of the building.     These two trees have been a favored perch for a pair of bald eagles in recent years making them a popular photography subject.  A few weeks ago the trees disappeared, perhaps victims of the purple lanternfly infestation.    Their identifying marker is still there.    Here's another sign with some history of the Bayou.

ΑΓΙΑ ΤΡΙΑΣ Holy Trinity: Revisited

Image
ΑΓΙΑ ΤΡΙΑ Σ   Holy Trinity: Revisited   Last year we saw Holy Trinity, a painting of Wilmington's Greek Orthodox church: https://rmw-ramblings.blogspot.com/2021/03/blog-post.html  A lunch yesterday at their annual Greek Festival suggested a revisit to this painting.  The scroll with the ancient Greek dancers and musicians on the left, and the contemporary Greek folk dancers on the right, is a major feature of the painting.  Here are some details from the layout drawing of the dancers...

Nesting Trays: "A Kayak Outing"

Image
Nesting Trays A Kayak Outing Our family has been kayaking at our cottage over generations.  Recently great-granddaughter Alaina got her first kayak voyage.  This brings to mind a set of nesting trays I painted about twenty years ago,  imaginary bird's eye views of Mary kayaking with granddaughter Courtney.   The largest tray shows Mary and Courtney out on the water.  If you look closely, Courtney is pointing at something.     Nested into this goes a slightly smaller tray; she is pointing at something floating by.    On the final tray we see what has caught here attention. A dragonfly has hitched a ride on a floating piece of sycamore bark. Here's the group...

"Tidewater Dining"

Image
Tidewater Dining   The Tidewater Grille is a waterfront restaurant in Havre de Grace on the Susquehanna just above it's entry to the Chesapeake Bay.  In season they have a popular outdoor waterfront dining area.  This is my take on it, just painted today.   The painting is 10 x 8 on a gallery wrapped canvas.

Rodney Square WWII Flag Court

Image
Rodney Square WWII Flag Court For most of the 20th century Rodney Square was the civic center of Wilmington   During World War II a court of flags of our war allies wrapped the square.  This picture is one side of a stereo card.  I converted the stereo view to a R/G anamorphic image that you can view if you have the appropriate two color glasses. And the stereo card if you have a viewer or able to free view it... And the text on the back...
