Fête des Poules (Hen Party)  Another chicken painting, this time celebrating Mary's annual girlfriend  get-together at our cottage.  "Hen Party" is her term, not mine.

  Papageno Our Christmas paintings have come down and others have gone up on our walls  Among them is Papageno.     Mozart's Die Zauberfl öte (The Magic Flute) is my favorite opera .   Papageno, the opera's protagonist, is a bird catcher and is often costumed in feathers which I have reduced here to a feather skirt.   He has his pipes and bells which play a role in the plot.   He has entranced a pheasant here.   Mozart conducts the proceedings from a box bordering the opera house proscenium arch.  Mozart's monogram initials are on the upper right on the curtain. My monogram signature in the same style are in the lower left.

  The Chickens Are Home to Roost 2 Caligula Caligula is another chicken now roosting in our dining room.  This is a smaller painting than Chanticleer, less stylized, and without an ornate frame.  Acrylic on canvas board. Here they are side-by-side...  

  The Chickens Are Home to Roost Chanticleer   Mary is fond of decorative chickens, so I painted this very stylized rooster, Chanticleer, for her.  Chantacleer lives in this ornate found frame. I usually sign my paintings with a monogram, frequently designed to fit the subject.  Here Chantacleer is signed with an RMW chicken monogram  

  Revisiting Delaware's Flag : The Delaware flag was adopted in 1913.  It, like many other state flags, is a "seal - on - a - bedsheet" [actually a coat of arms] .   In 2001 the North American Vexillological Association ran an online membership poll of members asking them to rank the design of the flags of 72 US and Canadian state, province, and territorial flags. https://nava.org/digital-library/design/surveys/2001-State-Provincial-Flag-Survey.pdf . (I am a member of NAVA but was not then.)   Delaware came in 52 nd place. I thought I could give Delaware a quick redo. First, Lets get rid of the coat of arms and the text. I've kept the color selection, with its historical connection to Revolutionary War Delaware uniforms.     Then make the diamond larger.    Does it need anything else?  This may be enough.   I tried out a chicken, another Delaware historical association, this one lifted from a painting of mine, "Chanticleer." ...
