Mount Salem Church

  28 March 2021   Mount Salem Church   Today, Palm Sunday, is the beginning of Holy Week, and it seems to be a good time to share some of my church paintings.  There will be more this week, but we'll start with Mount Salem Church in our Highlands neighborhood of Wilmington, at the end of the eponymous Mount Salem Lane.         This 10 x 8 acrylic painting was done as a wedding gift for a couple who were actively involved in the church and were marrying there.  The alpha and omega glyph is modeled on one in a church window.  The MtS monogram is my invention. Mount Salem United Methodist Episcopal Church (http://www.mtsalemumc.org/) was founded in 1847, predating Highlands and its annexation to Wilmington.  It has been rebuilt twice, and the steeple was reconfigured to replace the 1879 craftsman style upper steeple with the current crenelated  Gothic revival structure.
