Heron in Golden Sunrise

Image
Heron in Golden Sunrise Morning walks by the water in Havre de Grace are  visual feasts. The low morning sun gives texture to the water, silhouetting and shadowing the heron.

A Live, But Impressionist Heron

Image
A Live, But Impressionist Heron  On a walk in Havre de Grace along the water, I spotted this heron.  In the low light and at a distance I snapped a picture, which I have enlarged and color slightly boosted to make this impressionistic picture.  More herons to come.

Thrift Store Book Sales

Thrift Store Book Sales In thrift stores the used books are usually shelved randomly or in loose categories. But here we have shelved by color...   And another, just clutter...

"Greater than the Moon, Lesser Than the Sun"

Image
Greater Than the Moon, Lesser Than the Sun One night the Blessed Virgin Mary came to me in a dream. She requested that I create an image of her "Greater than the Moon, lesser than the Sun."   While I never considered this more than an odd dream, I kept thinking about it for a few months.   Eventually I created this painting.   The frame was salvaged from a broken mirror.  The arched top suggested the Sun/halo.   I added a pomegranate in Mary's hand.   This fruit is frequently associated with Mary in art and is considered to be the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. You will also find Mary's twelve stars, the Marian monogram familiar to Catholics from the miraculous medal, and the title phrase in Latin which I also symbolized.

Frenzy

Frenzy Frenzy looks up Broad Street in Philadelphia at the city hall.  The frenetic gulls echoing the evening commuter rush. The domed building on the left, now a hotel entry, was a series of banks which I remember as Girard Trust Corn Exchange.

"Cocorico"

Image
Cocorico A year ago you met Chanticleer,          https://rmw-ramblings.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-chickens-are-home-to-roost-1.html    Caligula,          https://rmw-ramblings.blogspot.com/2022/01/the-chickens-are-home-to-roost-2.html     and Carolino , (by daughter Betsy).             https://rmw-ramblings.blogspot.com/2022/02/the-chickens-are-home-to-roost-3.html   This afternoon I finished Cocorico.    Cocorico  is welcoming the new day by crowing out his name.  It's in French, since he is of the Gallic persuasion.  The Arts & Crafts clock has just arrived at the time of our usual arising time.  My signature monogram is the maker's mark on the copper clock.

Americus & Delavarsus

Image
Americus & Delavarsus   Tonight's Super Bowl game reminded me of two small companion paintings I did while a painter was working at our cottage. My Americus and Delvarsus were symbolic of our country and state. Our sports team-tattood painter read them as the Philadelphia Eagles and the University of Delaware Fighting Hens.   Here's Americus ...       And here's Delavarsus...   The frames inspired the postcard size paintings.  I wiped them with a acrylic paint to achieve the polychromatic effect.  Here they are roosting now in the cottage kitchen...
